 Bevins Sailing Rig
The original rig was a sliding gunter, designed by Bill Hunley. Joe Youcha asked me to design a new rig, and selected the leg-o-mutton from the alternatives. The stick is solid, 15' in length (made from two spruce 2 x 4s) and holds 52 sq ft of sail area. The boom is a sprit-type. In June 2004 the Bevins Skiff with this rig was displayed at the Smithsonian's Folklife Festival on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Construction plans are available for purchase from the Seaport Center.
