After cutting a number of side panels for kit builders, the Alexandria Seaport Foundation found it necessary to re-do the plans. They asked me for help. To convert to CAD and reconcile the plans, I had to draw the boat anew, however, going from the developed panels to a desired hull shape is a complete reversal of the normal process of panel development. The difficulty is that there is no unique hull shape to be derived from an existing panel. To get back as close as possible to Joe Youcha's original design required many iterations of shape the hull - develop the panel - test against existing paneIs - until I ended up with a hull that was very close to the original, and that used the already-cut panels. The Bevins is a popular boat for Family Boatbuilding. Plans are available for purchase from the Seaport Center. |
